Description for hands-on paints and ink class. Cathy
has been quilting for over 30 years (Yippes!) and longarm quilting for almost 20 years. She is a dynamic teacher that thinks
that her main job is to share the knowledge that she has in an easy to understand way. She has won numerous ribbons,
written many articles for magazines and taught nationally as well internationally. The best is to share
knowledge and making new friends.
1. Divide and conquer the
background
Let’s take the ordinary quilt to the extraordinary one by creating stunning background designs.
Cathy will show you how to divide up the background and place different designs in the background that will create textural
as well as visual impact. Many design ideas will be given and different ways to combine them will be shown. Cathy will
go thru each design step by step so that you will understand how to quilt the design when you get home. These designs can
be used for the everyday or special quilt. You will take home a sampler to remind you of the designs that you can do for your
future quilts when this is taught as a hands on class
2. Borders are the frames around your quilt.
Cathy will show you how to create just the right kind of border that will add to the look of your quilt by using the divide
and conquer technique. She will show you how to take any simple shape and use it 7 different ways. With the divide
and conquer method, you do not need to resize any of the stencils you have. If you are afraid of the math involved in
figuring out the border placement, Cathy will show you ways to forget the math and get the results that look great.
Tons of design ideas for borders and sashing will be shown. These designs will be broken down step by step so you will be
able to quilt them when you go home.
3. Have you ever felt like tearing your hair out and screaming
out loud because of problems you may have had with some quilting issues like tension, wonky quilts, how to wash a quilts and
other important quilting questions? Spare yourself the frustration of future quilting mistakes by joining me in this fact
laden but fun lecture .We will take a quilt journey from purchasing fabric to finishing the quilt. Let Cathy share with you
all the ways she has fixed the many mistakes she made on her quilting journey. Please bring your questions.
